How to Power Through Your Day

With Little Sleep Using Game Design 🎮💡

Hey Designer!

I don’t promote sacrificing sleep for success.

We all know how important it is.

But let’s be honest—we’re all noobs at sleeping well and consistently.

Last night, I was up late having a long chat with my girlfriend.

Then, reviews for LGD started rolling in, and I couldn’t help

but read every single one.

Seeing how much OctaCore resonated with people made me feel incredible

months of silent downloads, and now I had real feedback from real players.

It meant the world to me.

But… then I looked at the time. 2 AM.

Woke up at 8:30 AM feeling okay.
Then, an hour later—it hit me like a truck.

The headache, the sluggishness, the low motivation

you don’t need a study to tell you sleep deprivation is brutal.

It’s like getting the worst debuff imaginable:

🧠 Focus -9
🔥 Motivation -8
⚡ Energy -10

The only true way to remove this debuff is getting proper sleep

but that won’t happen for another 16+ hours of your day.

So what do you do?

💪🏾 You stack buffs.

Buffs in Games vs Buffs in Life.

In games, buffs are effortless.

You press a button

drink a potion

or cast a spell,

and instantly +30 stamina, +20 strength, +10 speed.

But in life?

Buffs require effort

but they also give you 10x the reward when you use them right.

So when I wake up sleep-deprived, I don’t fight the debuff head-on.
Instead, I counter it with powerful buffs.

🪄 3 Powerful Buffs That Instantly Offset Sleep Deprivation

🧠 Buff #1: Oxygen to the Brain
(+5 Focus, +5 Energy)

Feeling foggy isn’t just in your head—it’s your brain not getting enough oxygen.

Solution: Do any exercise that increases blood flow - star jumps, push-ups, or a brisk walk outside.
Why it works: More oxygen to the brain = instant mental clarity.

It will feel hard to do in your sleep deprived state so start at level 1

5 Pushups
5 star jumps
A 1 minute walk outside

This tiny bit of effort will literally 10x your energy.

The more you put into your buff, the more you get out.

❄️ Buff #2: Ice Water Wake-Up
(+5 Alertness, +3 Energy, +7 Mood)

The fastest way to shock your system awake: cold exposure.

Getting buffs in life is hard -

❌ Don't try and start at level 100 like Wim Hoff.

start at level 1 - get used to the easiest buffs then work your way up to bigger ones.

Lvl 1: Splash cold water on your face.
Lvl 2: Dunk your face in a bowl of ice water.
Lvl 10: Take a full cold shower.

Sounds painful? Dragging through your day like a zombie is way worse.

🏆 Buff #3: A Quick & Easy Win
(+5 Momentum, +5 Motivation)

When you’re tired, your brain doesn’t want to start anything. So don’t think—just get one small win.

Make your bed like Jordan Peterson says.
Design your day in 5 minutes.
Check off a super simple task.

Small wins build momentum. It’s like walking a bike up a hill

then with just one push, suddenly you’re coasting.

The Real Game Is Playing Smarter, Not Harder

Sleep deprivation sucks.

But instead of pushing through like a brute-force strategy, buff yourself intelligently.

🏆 Get moving for oxygen.
❄️ Shock your system with cold.
✅ Stack a quick win.
